To demonstrate layering and separation within my animation, I have provided screenshots and visual assets for background/foreground elements.
Layering has been used throughout the whole animation, especially when applying assets like the snowfall. 2 Different types of background snow was created to make a small variety of options so that the weather could make an impact without becoming too much, “Confusion and clutter are failures to design, not attributes of information. And so the point is to find design strategies that reveal detail and complexity- rather than to fault the data for an excess of complication.”(Tufte, 1990)
3 layers were generated here, one being the snowfall and the other 2 being the background work. To create the illusion of the flakes building upon the surface of the trees and floor, I duplicated the first visual and applied a coat of snow on areas, once happy I placed it long my animations timeline with a low opacity and make it increase over time.
To separate the hero snowflakes from the rest, the colours scheme is altered to cold blues with actual details provided more clearly. There is however a small layer of snow on top of these, this provides a field of depth within the image showing the space between the background and foreground.
