Skows Studies Class Work Production and Development

Production and Development

Categories:

This exercise consisted of working as a team, constructing a plane out of a sheet of A4 paper, coming up with ideas to form the best results to overcome the main challenge of distance.

To achieve the first design results, sketches were generated onto the sheet of paper, showing the unique build of the plane with its assembly annotated. With the annotations added it provides a sense of direction, creating a path showing strengths and weaknesses about the plane. This planes form differs from the basic structure of a regular paper plane, its body’s style is built in the shape of a swan/bird with wings adjusted so its suitable to glide through the air.

Some may argue the neck of the swan would be top heavy, weighing the nose of the plane down, this issue wasn’t a problem as to fix this the only had to be altered to lean back slightly, holding the weight to the center of the plane.

Presentation was the next step to development for the plane, seeing it fly in action!

The distance covered by the swan was greater than expected, no areas of the plane dropped or flipped during the flight, it glided through the air almost gracefully to reach about halfway across the room.

Finally as a group, we all pitched in to form one last plane. This plane had to be an improvement from the rest, a new design to travel the distance.
