For this week’s theme of the week, we had to generate an app/game that uses an element of voice as one of its main components. Straight away I had an idea of what to create but I didn’t know how to execute it, I wanted to make something other than a game, a more educational type of app that teaches you a certain language. An app like Duolingo which the user can focus on certain areas that they are intrigued to learn about. The app that I am making is soling going to be based on Japan and its culture, with learning all sorts of different facts and phrases, such as Hello and Goodbye in the language.
Why Japan you may ask?
I really like the culture of Japan and would definitely like to go one day, I feel like creating this app will not only benefit me but it’ll help others to understand and find out more about the city. For those who are planning on booking a trip or are just curious, this app will take you on a virtual journey through the world of Japan!
Title Screen/Main Menu:
To begin, I’ve created a small introduction scene for the app involving the app’s name ‘JAPAN’ and a tagline underneath stating,’ Your translator and guide for learning all things Japenese…’ The colour scheme and background are all Japanese flag-themed also, which is used throughout this whole app.

Once clicking ‘Begin’ a transition sequence slides you across to the main menu, this menu contains all of the categories that’ll be covered through the app.
LEARN – Includes learning phrases, facts and history.
EXPLORE – Shows a map of Japan and locates things to do.
TRAVEL – Locates Buses and other transportation to help you get to your location.
ABOUT – Includes information about the app.

While idle on the main menu, as decoration I have added a tree waving in the wind, blowing off small leaves, inspired by a cherry blossom tree swaying in the wind that I saw when researching imagery on Pinterest.

Learn Scene:
When the category ‘Learn’ is picked, the user will be transported to this opening screen. The first topic of the learning section is how to speak simple phrases, for example, Hello and Goodbye in Japanese.

Each Phrase or word given will have the statement in Japanese and English so it’s understood with ease, also if you are unsure about pronunciation you can click on the word and it’ll speak the word. When you’re happy with how you think it sounds its your turn to pronounce the word, using the space bar, speak the word correctly and it’ll move you onto the next phrase. Below is a short video example of how the system works.
About Scene:
This section contains a short description of what the app is about and what to expect.
