Initial Ideas:

Digital Storytelling is a way to tell a story through different forms of media production. This is most commonly seen within film and game production to share the story with their audience. There are many ways that one can tell a digital story, whether it’s media for games or films all of these topics have things that I would need to consider when making them for my project so below I have constructed a mind map breaking down a few groups with things to consider.

This mind map was constructed within PowerPoint, it’s a simplified map to follow to generate thoughts.

From making this simplified mind map, I have been able to generate 4 draft ideas for the project using different pieces of software for each one. Below shows these examples with a brief description along the side about how it’ll work.

Out of the 4 ideas, I am more drawn to the Adobe XD digital story. To create some sort of interactive children’s book, which allows the user to help tell the story, I feel like I could approach this project in many different ways and it would be fun to work on. The idea I’m not too drawn on is the Unreal Engine story piece, this is mainly because I am still currently learning the software and I would like to branch from using 3D for this project. I have more strengths using Adobe XD than Unreal Engine at this point, so I will stick to what I know and hopefully create a stronger outcome.

Here is the main idea I have chosen to work on with a list of things to consider and images added to the slide to get started. I will be researching and following the path of children’s books, digital & non-digital to come up with my own interactive story.

Mood Board:

To gain a better understanding of the different types of children’s interactive books I have developed these 2 mood boards, both of which will be helpful throughout the project.

By including a mixture of digital and non-digital media of interactive books, I can find examples that I could use to influence my own creations and story.

From looking through these 2 mood boards, I have gained some inspiration and ideas that I could do for my own project. I want to be able to use colourful mixed mediums like the few examples, making the visuals look appealing to a younger audience and clear to read.

For the next post, I will be looking deeper into the research of the type of story that I want to make with a few examples.

NOTES:

-Need to look more deeply and analyse a few of these interactive books, looking into not only the story but the visuals and how things are laid out.

-Colour & Style would be good to look into.

-Different interactive ways to approach.

-Audience.

-Purpose / Meaning.
