In this post, I shall be making a display board for my campaign which engages with the audience, allowing them to take part in helping out against Deforestation in their own creative way.

Board Materials:
To begin with, I wanted to start producing the materials for the display board, these will include 2 different types of imagery that can be placed upon the main hero image.

I made the materials in the form of cutting-out sheets, this was a decision that I made to get the young ones to get stuck in and participate, by them doing this they are putting in the effort to gather the leaves or acorns to help restore the tree. The first sheet is of a blank canvas of acorn designs, these are made to be drawn on to, becoming custom and unique to the person doing it, the acorn is a representation of the seed that’ll be carried to plant the future. The second design has a deeper meaning to it than the first, I produced a couple of leaf illustrations for this one to be pinned onto the branches. These leaves are created as variations from different trees with a specific colour scheme, I did this on purpose to show that it’s not only one type of tree that gets affected by deforestation, it’s all of them across the world. The colour scheme is specifically created to resemble the seasons throughout the year, this is to not only decorate the tree with colour but to show that it happens in any season.
Board Visuals:
Moving on, now the focus was on making the actual background and imagery for the board, this design will be the grounding for the whole display project.

After the sketch was made, I decided to continue and define it further using different mediums to colour the display to become visually appealing. I used oil paints mainly for this piece for the grounds and thick line work, this was accompanied by a standard spray for layering.

Once colour filled the image, I wanted to add some words scattered across the page, these had to be easily understandable for the younger audience that was in relation to the project. Most of the words chosen were keywords, positively influenced by the interaction of the piece, for example, ‘Nurture’ and ‘Restore’ is to help support the tree back to health.

Result:

Here’s the end result for the display board, I tried to Photoshop it the best I could onto the walls of a classroom to gain a greater understanding of how it would look, I also added to this design all of the materials that I have produced for this, including their placement on the board. The idea of this display is to bring everyone together in them all helping to restore the tree, I thought of this when conducting my research in the earlier stages of the work, using the display materials given they can also decorate it in any form they want. The tree in the middle is also a habitat for the birds that live in it, by restoring the tree they are rescuing the home of the animals that live within.
For the next post, I will be aiming to develop a small series of models for the campaign. These are going to be placed within the classroom so that they can be interacted with.
