In this post, I shall be experimenting with lighting for the characters model and its assets as well as assembling the components together.
To start off, I picked a background that I thought would suit the character and its theme, this darkened cloud reminded me of a thunder/storm cloud. Vikings travelled along dangerous seas at times, facing challenges against not just their enemies but the weather also. By adding this background to the character I am trying to achieve a threatening and dangerous atmosphere, showing that the shark is not someone who you should reckon with or take lightly.

After the background was picked, I experimented with the different types of lighting that could be added to the character. Beginning with a basic spot light, I altered the positioning a few times to find the best angle. This took several attempts to get the right placement, I realised that one wasn’t enough however to achieve the perfect lighting so I created another positioned from the lower right side of the shark to cast a darker shadow.

The regular spotlighting ended up looking great but I felt like I could take this a step further. I decided to experiment with the colour and differences between the light made, colour seemed to generate a massive impact on the model. Shades of blue seemed to work the best in my opinion, giving a dull aquatic appearance, the shadows made also create a sense of realism which was one of my main aims when constructing this character’s textures.

The next post will be the final turntable and the results of the model.
