First, before I get into explaining the influencing animations, here is a quick brief description of the character that I will be animating.
He’s a Viking that shouldn’t be trusted, likes to steal treasures and claim lands with his sea crew full of mutated shark people like himself. Wars have been fought between the Vikings of the land and sea after a series of hunting and polluting events, their leader believes that it’s time for a change. The sea creatures must rise up and defend themselves, claiming lands and taking back what’s rightfully theirs with revenge. This shark specifically is still evolving, he’s more of a defensive troop because of his large size and mass, mainly shielding others from attacks with his shield and tough skin. That’s also how he gained the name Uknuselig, the Norwegian word for unbreakable. Since Uknuselig is still evolving to the surface, he contains more shark features than the others in his crew, which also means that his behaviour is very primitive.

From researching many different fight sequences, this video contains features of movement which could be useful for me to take the influence of within my own characters animation. I mainly chose this scene because of the movements and body language shown through the orc, my shark’s body is relatively large in proportion which means it’ll move similarly to the character in this scene. The way the character moves and fights with strength/weight in every blow really creates accuracy in bringing the character to life.

This animation was picked out mainly to take influence from the weapon handling used, my character has a hammer and a shield as a weapon, by taking notes from some of these small fight scenes I can adapt a few of these movements within my own characters scene. In this video, there are a lot of different camera angles also within each scene, I find it interesting the way the camera shifts through the environment and focuses on areas of detail, when creating my own animation I shall consider adding these cinematic elements.

For this last video, I chose the game trailer – Assassins Creed Valhalla. This was not only on topic with my Viking themed character but it contained elements of movements/ fight sequences and weapon handling that I could use within my own piece. Near to the end of the video, there’s a 1 on 1 fight sequence, the larger guys movement is slow but shows strength within every sweep and impact given to the main character. I’ll take influence with this element of power used to show how powerful and tough my characters defences are. The camera angles are great with detail, not too overboard, stretching between the fights and what’s going on with the enviroment.
