THEME 3 “10 SECOND OR LESS”:

For this theme of the week, we had to construct an app/game that lasts a duration of 10 seconds or less. I struggled thinking of ideas for this assignment, my ideas stretched from making wall jumping games to making a character late for their bus. The concept that I ended up going with was an idea generated by my girlfriend, which seemed so random that it kind of works for this theme, the user has 10 seconds to climb the ladder to reach the sun before the timer runs out. Illustrated below are some of the start screen visuals with the fitting game title, THINK FAST!

Starting Scene 1:

To begin the game, you press start and it’ll take you straight into the game with a 3-second count down before the game actual commences. As soon as the word ‘go’ appears your actual timer begins, giving you 10 seconds to climb that leader to reach the sun to win the game. To climb this ladder, you have to constantly click the character that’s displayed within the centre of the screen, the difficulty rises the closer you get to the sun.

To improve this idea, I should have added an opening sequence to the game. Gives more of a background story than jumping straight first into it.

Losing:

If the player is idle or does not complete the game within the correct time, a score shall be displayed depending on how far the user has made. This end screen is good for when playing with friends or trying to beat your own score, making a competition out of the game and increasing the determination of wanting complete.

Space Scene:

All of the visuals were hand made in a mixture of Adobe XD and Illustrator, especially within the space sequence. Keeping the art style simplistic but giving a hint of shade helps define areas of the image more, for example seeing the bridge of light between the blues and space. As soon as the character enters space, I thought to add a mini addon to the person, giving it a space helmet.

Throughout space travel, you shall see shooting stars or space ships fly past within the background, this is to give the user more of an exciting experience than just climbing a ladder endlessly. As soon as you enter space you have roughly 5 seconds left to complete the game so I thought add the moon within the background of one of the scenes, at first I was going to have the moon closer to the ladder extending for 2 scenes but then I realised that I couldn’t within the amount of time remaining.

Sun Scene:

This was my favourite scene to create during this whole game development, I used harmonious colour blends of yellows, oranges and reds to generate beams of light getting lighter by the second from the sun. The timer at this moment will be on 2-1 seconds maybe even zero, the heat from the sun that powerful is almost impossible to beat.

Winning Scene:

Once reaching the door, you complete the game showing the overall score. When I finally won playing this game, I was so relieved and happy because this game very competitive I’ve found, it tests your reaction times and clicking skills to overcome the obstacle.
