In this post, I shall be introducing my ideas and thoughts towards the module specifying what I want to achieve as an outcome. For the assignment, we have been asked to design and create a short visual effects sequence for one of the following:
-A TV commercial
-A video game cutscene, opening, intro or action sequence.
-The opening or end of a film or TV show.
-A particular sequence in a film or TV show.
-A Music video
As looking through the brief I decided to construct a mind map in my sketchbook, branching off from each topic to thinking of potential ideas.

From making this map, I have been able to discover what subject area I want to base my project on. My Idea is to create a short TV commercial/Advertisement to promote an energy drink.

This video will exaggerate the concept of the drink giving the individual an energy boost, giving them abilities that don’t apply to the laws of physics to help sell the product. Within this project, I will use VFX to express these ideas making different particles/effects to accompany scenes. I have decided to go with this concept as I am a huge fan of caffeine and energy drinks, they help to give me the boost I need sometimes to get me through my day. This advert will mainly be aimed at the age range of 16+, this is because this is the legal customer age that can purchase this product.
Here is a list of potential VFX that I would like to create within my commercial:
-Lightning, appearing on the character’s body as a trail and on the energy drink as a source of power.
-Smoke, left behind the trail of lightning or used to accompany fire particles.
-Dust, left behind a trail and to show rubble clearly.
-Flash, added to help transitions.
-Liquid bubbles, for the drink itself when opened.
-Fire, shows friction on the shoes or clothing catching them on fire.
-Sparks, created on the drink and while running.
Influences –
In order to generate ideas for my storyboard, I have decided to find a couple of examples of energy drink adverts that could potentially influence my own work.
In the next post, I will explain the direction the film will take and develop a storyboard to show this more clearly.
