About – Skows Studies

Hi I’m Joseph Skow, this website has been created to showcase my work and skills as a developing Digital Designer. Throughout this website you’ll be taken on a journey exploring my past to present works, seeing improvements along the way. Works include experimental work, using different software, idea building and finished pieces.

Here are a few examples below of my work, stretching from 2D to 3D work. For making posters and design ideas I mainly used the Adobe programmes illustrator and photoshop, Photoshop was really good for experimenting with new ideas and Illustrator helped produce these ideas into clean illustrated visuals. When making 3D models I used the software Maya, this is a piece of software that allows you to build your model from a single poly shape into whatever you inspire it to become, my work using Maya was based on a Laboratory theme. Other software included Zbrush and Substance Painter. Substance Painter is great for creating the textures and adding colour to the models, it really brings them to life I think. With ZBrush, I am only just learning about it recently, from what I have learned so far it’s a more efficient way to sculpt a model and build more depth into shapes.

I have also experimented with animation and filmmaking over the past year. For Animation, I mainly used the software adobe after effects with elements of sketchbook pro for detailed visuals. At the start of the module, I made small clips of animation demonstrating different techniques and ways to make it effective. These skills then grew over time and were ready for the final assignment creating a 2-minute long animated piece. For filmmaking, the software I used was Adobe Premiere. This programme helped me to edit and combine my collections of video footage into one creation.
